TTF: This is weird.
The man who architected the most dodgy multibillion project in Malaysia’s history, Lim Guan Eng, is now the guy in charge of Malaysia’s finances and gets to decide which buck ends where. The RM6.3 billion Penang Undersea Tunnel project he contrived turned out to be a huge smokescreen billowed from his office in Komtar to mask massive land-scam deals involving millions in kickbacks. And today, this fellow wants an explanation from Arul Kanda if 1MDB is able to repay its debts.
This is weird.
PUTRAJAYA: 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy arrived at the front lobby of Ministry of Finance (MoF) at 2.43pm today.
Since last week, Arul Kanda and several other individuals have been barred from leaving Malaysia following an investigation into 1MDB.
Yesterday, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said RM143.75 million was due to be paid by 1MDB to lenders by May 30.
“Arul Kanda has to date insisted that 1MDB is fully able to service its debt obligations. I have instructed Arul Kanda to brief and clarify if 1MDB is able to pay the sum due next week,” Lim had reportedly said.
This afternoon, Arul Kanda arrived in a black MPV (multi purpose vehicle) and was escorted by several police personnel into the MoF building.
When asked if he was meeting Lim, Arul Kanda quickened his pace while remaining smiling at newsmen’s camera lens.
He remained resolutely silent despite reporters raining questions on him about 1MDB debt repayments.
It is understood that his employment contract as 1MDB president and CEO will expire on June 30 this year.
