What a dictatorship really means

“Kit Siang said the UMNO propaganda campaign of lies, fake news and false information is meant to demonise him. It is more like the other way around. Is it not Pakatan Harapan that is planning an anti-Najib roadshow this month to not only demonise Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak but his wife, Rosmah Mansor, as well?”

The concept and dogma of a dictatorship started from the Greek and Roman eras and did not initially mean something negative but just meant the person who dictates. A dictator, which is a Roman concept, means a political leader who wields absolute power. During Roman times it was not the Emperor but the Magistrates who wielded this power. In fact, they had more power than even the Emperors themselves. So a dictator does not have to be the person right at the top.

The argument that there cannot be two dictators at the same time is also not true. Russia had Stalin and Lenin both dictators at the same time while during the French Revolution both Robespierre and Napoleon emerged as dictators of France. And China saw more than two dictators at the same time while, in Cuba, Che Guevara abandoned the revolution because he did not want to be a joint-dictator with Castro.

Kit Siang said the UMNO propaganda campaign of lies, fake news and false information is meant to demonise him. It is more like the other way around. Is it not Pakatan Harapan that is planning an anti-Najib roadshow this month to not only demonise Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak but his wife, Rosmah Mansor, as well? So who is spreading fake news and false information and misleading Malaysians on what is really happening?
