“Where was this lady when Hew Kuan Yao (a.k.a. superman Hew) referred to Malays as “Melayu bodoh” and PAS president Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Hadi Awang as “penipu Agama hamsap dan tamak duit?”
THE THIRD FORCE
When it comes to hypocrisy, Datin Seri Dr. Wan Azizah may well be the life-tenured professional.
Earlier today, the PKR president described the attack on Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong as a pointer that a scheme exists to target non-Muslim Pakatan Harapan leaders. According to her, the attack was un-Islamic and against the spirit of Ramadan.
The PKR president was commenting on a video footage depicting a group being verbally and physically abused at a Ramadan bazaar in Bandar Baru Kluang. The group, led by Chin Tong, was at the bazaar distributing dates to patrons before being chased out for no apparent reason.
“What PKR fears is the recent spate of incidents including the spreading of a fake Whatsapp message purportedly by Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and criticisms against the book by Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh.
“This is not a healthy development for the multi-cultural communities in our country. Therefore, PKR urges all parties to protect the harmony and unity among the people, and reject racism and extremist actions,” the PKR president said.
She added that the incidents – including the harassment suffered by Chin Tong – suggested a concerted effort by “unnamed groups” to fan racial and religious sentiments. In other words, she is telling us the incident was racially motivated and had nothing to do with differences in political ideologies.
Makes sense?
I mean, is it not deplorable, if not outrageous, for a public figure to relate the bazaar Ramadan incident to racism? Could it not be that the incident was sparked by differences in ideologies and not racial biases?
The fact is, it is irresponsible for anyone – particularly one helming a party that calls itself the “Malaysian Justice Party” – to stir emotions hinged solely on his (or her) intuition or suspicion. Surely, a person of Wan Azizah’s stature realises that the road from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is always a short one.
If you ask me, the police should immediately haul her up for questioning on grounds she attempted to incite racial unrest. And that’s based on legitimate suspicion, considering that it was she who suggested the attack suffered by Chin Tong and his team was racially motivated.
Think I’m being paranoid?
Then, tell me, where was this lady when Hew Kuan Yao (a.k.a. superman Hew) referred to Malays as “Melayu bodoh” and PAS president Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Hadi Awang as “penipu Agama hamsap dan tamak duit?” Did you know that Hew uttered those remarks at an event organised by Maria Chin Abdullah, the very Maria Chin Abdullah who claims to walk in truth and champion justice?
Tell me, where was Wan Azizah then? Does she not think that “a scheme exists” in the DAP “to target” Muslim UMNO leaders? Is she not of the opinion that the speech Hew delivered was “not a healthy development for multiracialism” in this country?
See the double standards yet?
