TTF: Prior to the 14th general election, every other UMNO member and leader swore eternal loyalty to Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak and went out of their way to defend him against slander by Pakatan Harapan. They readily agreed that the accusations hurled against him were largely the doing of Dr Mahathir Mohamad and media assassins paid to demonise both Najib and his wife. Today, many of these leaders have gone mum.
Worse, some of them resorted to leaving UMNO for the very Pakatan they spent years vilifying. It didn’t seem to bother them that the coalition they’re now representing is the very coalition they accused of slander and lies. What mattered to them most was the money they received to convince the rakyat that Najib is a crook.
So you see, as much as I hate to admit it, UMNO is a party filled with leaders who’re in it for the money, power and fame. Had the party performed well during GE14, we may never have been able to identify these leaders and would continue to champion their collective cause and ‘virtues’. But that is not to say there aren’t any money-hungry and power-crazed opportunists left in the party.
And as long as these opportunists remain, UMNO has no hope of recovery and will remain a weak party that the Malays can soon start forgetting about.
PUTRAJAYA: Johor Baru MP Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad has called on Umno members to continue to support beleaguered former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his time of need.
However, at the same time, he urged them to comply with and respect the laws of the nation.
“Indirectly, we will also make sure that the law is applied, and that it is not merely a made-up scenario,” he told reporters after recording his statement with the MACC regarding the RM1 million he allegedly received from Najib.
He also advised Umno members to remain calm in the face of adversity.
