Putra has denied a news report that it is eyeing a partnership with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Putra secretary-general Rosdi Idris also rubbished a claim that the party would be renamed Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA).
“The report by Utusan Malaysia, which was based on party sources, is inaccurate … it does not reflect the stance of Putra’s Supreme Council which met on March 7,” said Rosdi in a statement today.
“Both issues, including that of changing Putra’s name to GTA, have not been touched upon at any Putra Supreme Council meeting thus far.”
PETALING JAYA: Putra has denied a news report that it is eyeing a partnership with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“The matter of joining PN, or creating an alliance with PN, in an effort to form the largest Malay coalition in the country did not arise.
“Both issues, including that of changing Putra’s name to GTA, have not been touched upon at any Putra Supreme Council meeting thus far.”

Citing a statement from Putra president Ibrahim Ali on March 3, Rosdi said any confirmation on the two matters would only be announced after its annual general meeting (AGM) set for May 7.
Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that Putra is set to be renamed GTA, the loose coalition founded by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Citing a source, the report said Mahathir will then take over the Putra president’s post from Ibrahim, a long-time ally of the former prime minister. It said the move will be explained to Putra members at its AGM.
The source also said GTA will partner with Berjasa and the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman) – parties that Putra was already allied with previously – as well as the Muhyiddin Yassin-led PN.
It added that cooperation between GTA and PN would be the first step towards ensuring the Malays regained power in the 16th general election.
