The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has denied a viral posting on social media that claimed the AGC had found former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s SRC International Sdn Bhd trial to be invalid.
“The news is absolutely untrue and false,” the AGC said in a statement on Friday (July 8), noting that the Federal Court had already fixed Aug 15 to hear Najib’s appeal against his conviction with the AGC appearing as the respondent.
In other words, Najib’s SRC International Sdn Bhd trial is as yet valid.
The High Court had found Najib guilty on a charge of abuse of power with regard to the RM4 billion loan approved by Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) to SRC and on three counts each of criminal breach of trust and money laundering of RM42 million of SRC funds between Dec 26, 2014 and Feb 10, 2015.

“The AGC will proceed with the appeal in this case and will await the Federal Court’s decision,” said the statement.
The viral posting claimed that Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun had described the SRC case as a mistrial and it was therefore deemed invalid.
The High Court had found Najib guilty on a charge of abuse of power with regard to the RM4 billion loan approved by Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) to SRC and on three counts each of criminal breach of trust and money laundering of RM42 million of SRC funds between Dec 26, 2014 and Feb 10, 2015.
The former premier was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction and sentence last Dec 8.
