Many mainstream media channels in Malaysia spoke of a meeting between former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya.

The meeting is said to have taken place on Tuesday, the 3rd of October 2023.

However, none reported of a meeting between Megawati and former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the same day.

According to The Jakarta Post, the two senior politicians discussed several issues, including Indonesia’s plan to move its capital city to East Kalimantan.

During the meeting, Mahathir is said to have mentioned the monumental task of moving Indonesia’s capital city, a job that would be more complex than what the Malaysian government undertook in the early 1990s when it moved the administrative center to Putrajaya, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur.

Indonesian media channels almost exclusively focused on this meeting, raising questions if the media in Malaysia was forced to ‘censor’ it or were afraid to offend Anwar by reporting it.
