PETALING JAYA: PKR MP Fahmi Fadzil has indirectly questioned the financial capacity of women, family and community development minister Rina Harun following her recent settlement of a million-ringgit debt to a Paris-based film and television programme production company.
Citing the Cabinet ministers’ asset declaration list for 2019, Fahmi, in a Facebook post said the Titiwangsa MP had declared a monthly salary of RM34,004.48 and assets of RM72,000.
The Lembah Pantai MP said if there was no change in her monthly salary payment between June 2018 until Feb 2021, then Rina’s cumulative salary should be RM1,122,000.
However, he noted that with two months’ salary deducted for the Covid-19 fund, as declared by the Cabinet last year, then her accumulated salary over the past 33 months should only be RM1,054,000.
“Still, congratulations Rina Harun,” he said on her being able to settle the debt.
Rina, who also heads the PPBM women’s wing, was served a bankruptcy notice for debts owed to Sarl Novovision to the tune of RM1,340,642.02 as of Nov 17, 2020.
Lawyer Mark Ho Hing Kheong, who represented the French company, said that the exact outstanding amount, which he declined to disclose, was paid last week.
“We received a cheque on Wednesday and it was cleared the following day,” he told FMT when contacted.
A statement of claim against Rina was filed on Nov 8, 2018 by the French firm stating that the full amount must be paid by July 31, 2019.
The claim was for several films, comedy shows and documentaries in the comedy genre sold to three companies in which Rina was a director.
