FROM THE MACC FILES: How the Penang Undersea Tunnel deal with Guan Eng started

The amount of kickbacks involved in the 7.2km Penang Undersea Tunnel is more than RM2.6 billion. However, the MACC has closed the file on the matter and marked it NFA (no further action). This is because only the Attorney-General can decide whether to prosecute and Tommy Thomas will never go for Lim Guan Eng.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on 9th January 2018. The MACC then recorded Zarul Ahmad’s statement on 12th January 2018. By April 2018, the investigation had been completed, but before any action could be taken, the government changed and Malaysia saw a new Attorney-General.

A deep throat in the MACC has handed the investigation file of almost 200 pages to Malaysia Today and over the next few days we will be publishing extracts from that file. Today, we shall show you Zarul Ahmad’s statement on how he linked up with Lim Guan Eng and how the idea for the 7.2km Penang Undersea Tunnel was mooted.
