Clear sign Agong is ‘not happy’ with Muhyiddin and government

“The fact that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong repeated the call for parliament to convene after having only met the Speakers of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara and not the Prime Minister himself, implies that His Royal Highness is sick and tired of the Prime Minister’s antics”

Many activists associated with government are misinterpreting what the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong said today to suit their biases and prejudices.

In light of this, and based on conversations with two constitutional experts and others in the know, I have taken the liberty to state the undisputable and gospel truth regarding the statement relased by Istana Negara earlier today, as follows:

1. The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong met with the Speakers of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, not the Prime Minister, before a statement was released.

2. The meeting followed almost two weeks of contentious debates in public spheres over the powers of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

3. Several persons associated with government and the Attorney General contended incorrectly that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, being a Constitutional Monarch, did not have the power to call for a parliamentary sitting without first receiving advice from the Prime Minister.

4. The argument is flawed, in that:

a. The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong does have discretionary powers, one being the power to reject the advice of the Prime Minister to call for a State of Emergency.

b. This became evident when His Royal Highness decided against a State of Emergency in October despite having been advised by the Prime Minister to call for one.

c. The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong has absolute power in practically all instances under the State of Emergency effected on the 12th of January 2021 and may choose to convene parliament whenever His Royal Highness sees fit, with or without the advice of the Prime Minister.

d. This is reflected in the Ordinan Darurat (Kuasa-Kuasa Perlu) 2021, which is deliberately ignored by those associated with government and the Attorney General whenever they pose an argument.

5. The fact that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong reiterated that parliament must convene “in the near future” or “in the nearest time” is indicative that His Royal Highness is not satisfied with government for ignoring a similar call less than two weeks ago and for challenging and (or) misinterpreting the powers of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

6. The fact that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong repeated the call after having only met the Speakers of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara and not the Prime Minister himself, implies that His Royal Highness is sick and tired of the Prime Minister’s antics.

7. The fact that Istana Negara made it clear that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s call for parliament to convene was made in His Royal Highness’ capacity as a Constitutional Monarch, implies that the Palace wants everyone to know that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is well aware of his powers as a Constitutional Monarch.

Thus, reading between the lines and the way I see it, what the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong actually said today can be interpreted as follows:

“Yes, I am a Constitutional Monarch, but you guys (in government) don’t seem to have a clue as to what that constitutes or the real powers of a Constitutional Monarch, particularly with regards to the current State of Emergency.

“As such, I don’t intend to waste my time with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin or government, which is why I am dealing directly with the Speakers of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.

“What I now want the Speakers to do is to make sure parliament convenes by hook or by crook before the current State of Emergency ends.

“I don’t care how they do it, just do it.”
