“It appears obvious to me that Anwar is trying very hard to curry favour with Muslims ahead of the state elections and got shaken up when some non-Muslims began accusing him of being ‘excessively Islamic’”

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim denied claims that he was trying to apply Islamic concepts excessively in his government by seeking to expand the role of Jakim, an Islamic development department.
According to a news portal, Anwar said the accusations by some non-Muslims showed that they did not understand the importance of educating Muslims about the true concept of the religion.
“I want Jakim not only to talk about religion and Islamic law. Jakim is to expand its duties, talk about economic issues, look at digital programmes, and look at the education curriculum,” he said.

“The responsibility is broader, so that the values of Islam can be applied, and this is opposed by those who do not understand, a small group of non-Muslims who write that ‘Anwar is now displaying his strong Islamist attitude, which he has tried to hide all this time by ordering Jakim to control all the systems’,” he said.
Question is, why should Anwar have to explain himself to non-Muslims if indeed his intentions are noble and do not concern them?
Besides, he himself claims that only a ‘few’ had accused him, so why the ‘damage control’?
In justifying the need to expand the role of Jakim, Anwar implied that Muslims who did not get a true understanding of Islamic teachings could be involved in clashes with other communities in this country.
But why the slant against Muslims? Why the need for such pessimism when explaining oneself to non-Mulims?
Why did Anwar not point out instead the possibility that Muslims and non-Muslims could clash due to the pessimism displayed by non-Muslims over the proposed expansion of Jakim’s role?
See my point?
The way I see it, Anwar is trying very hard to curry favour with Muslims ahead of the state elections and got shaken up when some non-Muslims began accusing him of being ‘excessively Islamic’.
This is because Pakatan Harapan desperately needs the Chinese and Indians to turn up en masse on voting day to ensure that the coalition does not lose its grip on Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.
