Anwar’s repeated expressions of confidence was meant to force Mahathir into responding by specifying an exact timeframe for the handover of power.
Anwar knew the succession agreement lacked a handover date and feared that Mahathir would call for a general election before his full term was up.
Mahathir saw through the ploy and deliberately went from the timeframe being “two years” to “three years” to “I’ll leave when the time is right.”
That pissed Anwar off so much that he instructed Otai Reformsi to demand publicly that Mahathir make known his retirement plans.
SUBANG JAYA: Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim need not advise people in public not to make statements regarding his status as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s successor and the latter’s position as Prime Minister.
Instead, he should personally call up the people he instructed to put pressure on Mahathir, including those from Otai Reformasi, and tell them to call off the attacks now that his support in PKR and parliament is waning.
For months, Anwar repeatedly expressed ‘confidence’ in Mahathir’s sincerity in adhering to a succession agreement which the former insists is signed.
However, not only is this a falsehood, the only thing PH leaders agreed upon prior to the 14thgeneral election was the need for Mahathir to hand over power before his full term was up.
Anwar was in jail back when the agreement was reached.
On the 20th of July 2019, TTF posted:
I wishes to note, that when Mahathir said he would not stay on “a full term,” the focus should be on the actual meaning of “a full term” and not what one believes a full term means.
For the record, a full term in Malaysia refers to a five-year period beginning the day parliament first convenes following a general election.
That is to say, if Mahathir or whoever may replace him as Prime Minister does not call for the dissolution of parliament by or before the 17th of July 2023, the 14th Malaysian parliament automatically gets dissolved.
However, if Mahathir chooses to call for the dissolution of parliament in 2020 or 2021, he would technically have fulfilled his promise to relinquish his post “before the full term is up.”
See the game, or do you want me to spell it out for you?

But nothing happened.
Instead, Anwar was forced to take a step back following a series of events (see links bellow) that critically eroded his support base.

But Anwar is not one to sit with arms folded.
He has since come to know that Mahathir is considering replacing Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Deputy Prime Minister in a Cabinet reshuffle that is set to shock everyone.
So he got Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim to demand that Mahathir resign for ‘failing’ to resolve a number of critical issues.
Anwar actually believes that the move will keep Mahathir from replacing Wan Azizah out of fear that PKR MPs will stage a mass exodus from PH to collapse government.
But not only are the majority of MPs with Azmin, PKR is no longer under Anwar’s control. There is even talk that Azmin will stage a surprise attack by getting his men to call an EGM (follow links above).
Yes, so obsessed is Anwar with becoming Prime Minister that he’s lost touch with reality and now lives in this make-believe world where fairy godmothers exist and people actually worship him as God.
