The Court of Appeal has allowed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to amend the dates in his application for temporary access to his passport due to the upcoming Melaka state election this month.
A three-man panel chaired by Justice Kamaludin Md Said allowed the application after hearing both parties in open court here on Wednesday (Nov 3).
Deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Hasim said the prosecution had no objection to the amendment.
On Oct 18, the same court granted Najib temporary access to his passport for him to visit his daughter Nooryana Najwa in Singapore, who has recently given birth.
PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has allowed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to amend the dates in his application for temporary access to his passport due to the upcoming Melaka state election this month.
A three-man panel chaired by Justice Kamaludin Md Said allowed the application after hearing both parties in open court here on Wednesday (Nov 3).
Najib’s lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee had informed the court that his client had been tasked to help Umno in the Melaka state election.
“His travel plans have to change a little. The new travel dates (to Singapore) are now between Nov 21 and Dec 5,” Muhammad Farhan said.

The lawyer added that they had approval from all four High Courts that presided over Najib’s cases and the courts have granted similar orders.
Deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Hasim said the prosecution had no objection to the amendment.
Justice Kamaludin said the prosecution would have studied the application and its grounds for amendments for it to decide not to object.
“The prosecution must have considered the application. This was not simply a ‘no objection’ coming from the prosecution.
“I do not want a misconception that this application had simply passed through,” he said.
The judge also said this was Najib’s second time before the appellate court relating to the same matter.
“On the court’s part, this is the second time the applicant has requested before the court.
“I’m reminding you there will be no third time,” the judge said to Muhammad Farhan.
The court then allowed the application and noted that Najib’s passport must be returned to the court on or before Dec 6.
Other judges on the bench were Justices Nordin Hassan and Hashim Hamzah.
On Oct 18, the same court granted Najib temporary access to his passport for him to visit his daughter Nooryana Najwa in Singapore, who has recently given birth.
Najib, 68, is awaiting the Court of Appeal’s decision on his appeal against his conviction and sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
In that case, Najib was convicted of seven charges relating to the misappropriation of RM42mil from the company’s coffers.
