“Given that the Federal Cabinet is running government on behalf of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong by virtue of the Ruler’s assent, the fact that the Ruler has now expressed his discontent towards government in no uncertain terms amounts to a vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin”

The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong has delivered a vote of no confidence against the administration of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin by expressing his utter disappointment with the latter and his administration for misleading parliament.
Ini a statement, Istana Negara verified that law minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS) and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun also did not fulfil their promises to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to have the revocation of the Emergency Ordinance debated in Parliament.
This was revealed by the Controller of the Royal Household, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, who said that Article 150 (2b) read with Article 150 (3) of the Federal Constitution clearly provides that the power to enact and repeal emergency ordinances rests with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“In this regard, His Majesty expressed disappointment at the July 26 statement in Parliament that the government had revoked all the Emergency Ordinances that the King had announced during the emergency period, although His Majesty had not consented to the revocation,” Ahmad Fadil said.
Ahmad Fadil added that the King expressed great dismay that his suggestion for the revocation of the Emergency Ordinances to be tabled and debated in Parliament was not implemented.
“His Majesty’s proposal was agreed upon earlier during a virtual meeting on July 24 with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law Affairs) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun.
“His Majesty stressed that the statement made by the parliament affairs minister on July 26 is not accurate and has confused the members of the Dewan Rakyat,” he said.
The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s outburst – which is what it is – is a slap on the face for UMNO, PAS and PPBM ministers who are collectively responsible for misleading the Dewan Rakyat into thinking that the Emergency Ordinances were repealed on the 21st of July 2021.
This becomes evident when none of these ministers took the trouble to explain to the lower house that the proposal to repeal the Ordinances had been presented to the Yang D-Pertuan Agong but had yet to receive royal consent.
While it is a PAS minister who misled parliament, the Prime Minister walked out of the Dewan Rakyat to prevent being questioned instead of correcting the PAS minister.
As for UMNO, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, Muhyiddin’s deputy in government, failed to take charge following the latter’s exit from the Dewan Rakyat and assume his role as Muhyiddin’s assistant during the latter’s absence by correcting Takiyuddin.
It is now incumbent upon Muhyiddin to resign as Prime Minister and for the Federal Cabinet to follow suit.
The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is not going to spell it out in black and white as the Rulers are deemed to be above politics, as pointed out correctly by Sultan Nazrin Shah in 2009.
However, given that the Federal Cabinet is running government on behalf of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong by virtue of the Ruler’s assent, the fact that the Ruler has now expressed his discontent towards government in no uncertain terms amounts to a vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin.
It is time Muhyiddin reads between the lines and announces his resignation.
